Microsoft’s hard disk repair utility, CHKDSK (“check disk”), was launched over 30 years ago and still is useful. It is also accessible on latest Windows OS. It helps to examine hard drive for errors and repair them. In this post, we’ll discuss how to run CHKDSK in Windows 8.







Tips to scan & fix hard drives in Windows


1. Launch the Start Screen by clicking the lower left corner of the Taskbar. 

2. Type cmd in the search box. 

3. Right-click on the Command Prompt and select “Run as Administrator”. 


4. Type the command “chkdsk” followed by a space and letter of the drive you want to repair. 
To tell CHKDSK to fix the drive, you need to enter the parameters separated by a space each: “/f /r /x” 



Type the full command in the following format 

chkdsk [Drive:] [parameters] 


CHKDSK needs to lock the system’s boot drive if the computer is in use. The system will ask, if you want to run the command before the next boot. Type “yes,” & restart the computer. 

After following these steps, you could easily scan and fix hard drive in windows.
